Girls Varsity Soccer · Spring Sports Preview: Girls Soccer

The Adrian Athletic Department will highlight and celebrate each of the spring sports it offers. The information and player spotlights will be provided by the program’s head coach. The final installment is the girls soccer program and Coach Mutatu:

I was really excited for this spring season. We have a group of players who have played at the varsity level since they were freshman and I was looking forward to seeing them play as seniors. We lost 5 seniors last year and one of the biggest positions we had to replace was in goal. Brooklyn Patterson(sophomore) would have been our goalie this year. I believe She would been outstanding as our goal keeper. Our three captains this year are Madison Kendall, Grace Campbell, and Khloe Terada. Both Kendall and Campbell have both played varsity since their freshman year virtually playing every position  besides goalie. This year Campbell would have played forward for us and we would have relied on her to be our most threatening offensive player . Kendall and Madison would have been our midfield players. Their experience, tactical awareness and leadership would have made it difficult for teams to beat us through the middle. The majority of our goals would have been a result of either of their involvement. Our other senior is Alexa Valdez who is currently committed to playing soccer at Siena Heights. She would have played defensive midfield for us this year. With the amount of experience she brings to our team, I’m certain she would have a had a break through season.

This year we had the most players turn out to play soccer in my three years as the varsity soccer coach. We had 15 freshman in the program with 9 of them on varsity. Our program has been making great strides over the past few years and with so many players showing up, this year would have given us so much momentum moving forward. My heart sincerely breaks for all the seniors on my team who don’t get to have closure to what’s been an incredible high school career. It’s going to be very difficult to replace these amazing ladies. To Madison Kendall, Grace Campbell, Khloe Terada, and Alexa Valdez I want to say I’m grateful for your contribution to the program, you have created so many memorable moments in my little time as your coach. I’m hoping for the best in your future. You guys rock!!
